I was always told if I went barefoot before May 1 I would catch the epizootie. I was threatened with this same affliction if I rolled down hills, played with the chickens too much, or didn't wear my toboggan in the snow. But when those times came that I felt poorly or my sinuses acted up, old Rube would be there with a bottle of this old Appalachian tonic. And it worked.
Known throughout Appalachia by different names and different variations, we create our Fire Tonic on the full moon with raw apple cider vinegar, organic onions, garlic, horseradish root, tumeric root, ginger root, lemon, jalapeno, cayenne, rosemary, thyme, and echinacea. It sits for a moon cycle and then is pressed and filtered twice before going into bottles.
In the years since my epizootie days, our research has shown that this mountain tonic has been beneficial in promoting good gut health, aiding in circulation, and all of the ingredients are anti inflammatory. Our recommendations are to take a tsp to tbsp for daily well being or if you feel that old epizootie coming on, increase to a couple of shot glasses per day.
Available in unsweetened, honeysweet, and (when available) Elder's Fire, a slightly different variation that includes elderberries, echinacea, clove, cinnamon, and astragalus root.
