Just outside the old screen door at the back of the house, to the right of the clothesline filled with freshly laundered sheets was a magical little garden of flowers that mamaw visited daily during the long light of summer. It was beautiful, but not manicured. It had within it the same mountain wildness that she held in her youthful heart. This herbal infusion of summer flowers and garden mints capture perfectly the evenings Clay spent on that back porch just beyond the old screen door plucking on his old banjo as his grandmaw sang softly the old hymns of her childhood.
