Without fail, Saturday was wash day at mom's and Mamaw's house. After cartoons, I was banished from the house to wander the forests, orchards, or creeks until all the laundry was complete. On warmer days, when the bedsheets would hang upon the lines and blow in the mountain breeze, I would sneak back to pretend that I was a pirate and the sheets were my armada on search for distant lands. Mamaw had her own recipe for 'warshin powders' that we still use to this day as we have found nothing better for cleaning and freshness. Included in this box is a quart of Mamaw's Warshin' Powders, 3 wool dryer balls, our linen spray, and a muslin sack of soap nuts.
